Fix for no sound coming out from Razer Surround - *Update 2.3*

There is a high chance you heard about Razer Surround ( If you don't, its a good idea to check it out ). Its a piece of software available for free on Razerzone.com/surround. But if you installed and no sound was coming out, here is a fix.

There is a very easy way to resolve it, thanks to Razer Support:

1st: Open Razer Surround
2nd: Select your audio device (if you don't have one, skip this        step.)
3rd: Make sure "Enable virtual Audio Device" is checked.
4th: Press Windows Key +R
5th: Type services.msc
6th: Click Ok
7th: Scroll 'till you see "Razer Surround Audio Service"
8th: Right Click it.
9th: Click restart
10th: And you suppose to see your device in Razer surround
11th: Test your device and you can hear the sound now!
_________________________________________________________________

EDIT: There is a new service called: RzSurroundVADStreamingService that may be an renamed service of Razer Surround found by one of the people who left a comment. Rebooting it seem to help according to him.

_________________________________________________________________

EDIT 2.1: Thanks to anncrow who provided a permanent solution to this problem so that it will be automatically applied, here is how it works. I have added a few fixes anncrow have posted.

>>Solution: Create a windows-task so whenever RazerSynapse is opened the service is restarted.

>>Guide:

Step 1: Open Task Scheduler

Step 2: Create a task with any name either through the sidebar or as shown in the image, preferably one that you can easily find it later on if you need to change it. There are 2 different task types, "Basic task" and "task", task is more more advanced purpose for example if you want the fix to apply across multiple user accounts, while basic task is easier to approach although it has less options.

Step 3: In Trigger, set the service itself as a trigger, a delay is not needed. If you haven't changed the install location, it is located in:

"C:\ProgramData\Razer\Synapse\Devices\Razer Surround\Driver\RzSurroundVADStreamingService.exe"

which you will have to find it out using Windows Search or your memory if you changed it install location. The trigger involving the Razer Synapse program worked most of the time, not always.

This is the alternative of the above step, if it does not work, which involves the Razer Synapse program:

Under trigger you add a trigger and select an event as a trigger. As an event you set "application" and as a source "C:\Program Files (x86)\Razer\Synapse\RzSynapse.exe" or wherever it is located in your files. This is the location of the Razer Synapse or the control panel for Razer Surround. This is to make the fix to automatically apply whenever Razer Synapse ( or Razer Surround ) is run.

Another alternative of the above step, thanks to an anonymous user:

Using same script, but better trigger:

In task scheduler - edit trigger:
Begin the task: On an event
Log: System
Source: Power-Troubleshooter
Event ID: 1

Now whenever the computer wakes from sleep it will automatically restart the service without having to open control panel.
Step 4: Create a task-action in editor

Open the desktop-app editor and create a file with the text:

net stop "RzSurroundVADStreamingService"
net start "RzSurroundVADStreamingService"
Save it as a ".bat" file and make sure it is set to "all files* under the file type so the file extension will not be ".bat.txt".

Video if you don't understand step 4:

Step 5: Specify the action in task scheduler

Back in the task scheduler under actions you create a new action and select "start application" and as "program/task" you put the path to the *.bat file we just created.

Step 6: Execute the task with highest privileges

You need to execute the windows task with highest privileges otherwise the *.bat file will not be executed. You can change that setting in the first tab while creating the windows-task.

Step 6: Confirm all your selections and you are set!

Now whenever Razer Synapse or the Control Panel for Razer Surround is opened either in AutoRun or manually the service will be restarted and you will have sound again.

Hope this helps, all thanks to anncrow.

    5. Sorry for the late reply, the "Enable audio device" is located in the Razer Surround Control Panel, above the list of audio devices. On the service, you should right click it, and if it still doesn't have an option to restart, you can click "Stop" and then start. Alternatively, you can start Command Prompt as Administrator, and then type in:

      sc stop RzSurroundVADStreamingService

and press enter, then type in:

      sc start RzSurroundVADStreamingService

Please let me know if it still doesn't work.

    13. If you get that error from restarting the service, check the service again.

It stopped the service, which I couldn't do manually for some reason. I was then able to start the process again with the right click context menu.

Saved me a reboot and it might be worth a shot to anyone with the same issue.

Good luck guys, and thanks to the rest of you!

    1. Yes, if you change it to headset you will have no surround sound ( unless you bought a 5.1 or 7.1 surround headset ). Try checking the name section properly, and if you can't see, try widen the name column. If you still cannot do it, tell me your situation. Good luck. :)

    2. For the time being, you can try by updating Razer Synapse or try reinstalling it. I also have this problem for quite some time but I am unable to reproduce this problem. Restarting the driver in services.msc also works.

Try to delete Razer Synapse and Surround using Revo Uninstaller and then use CCleaner to clean the remaining registries left behind.

Then reinstall Razer Surround back. Reply to me if you still have issues.

    1. Hello Cem,

Sorry for the delay, according to their website:

Razer Surround uses state-of-the-art technology to retain the positional audio of 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound in a standard stereo headset. This conversion is not required for headsets that are already able to output 5.1 or 7.1 audio and therefore these devices will not be listed.

So you don't need Razer Surround since your headphone already supports 7.1 surround technology, Razer Surround is for those whose device do not support any of the surround sound technology.

I hope this solves your problem.

      Best Regards,
      LShun

I'm sorry, I think I can't help you without the Razer Service as the Razer Surround operates with the service to make enhancements to the sound produced through your system. You can try reinstalling Razer Surround or check for the RzSurroundVADStreamingService service instead of the original service. 1. Hello,

Try to avoid double-posting, one post is sufficient. I'm assuming you are using a notebook/laptop/external speaker. If it gives sound to your speaker but not your headset, try going to "Playback Devices" by right-clicking the sound icon on the right side of your task bar, and then click Playback Devices and check if your headset is enabled.

I hope you can give more details, but what I am able to help is to make sure your cable connection is secure, and the headset works without Razer Surround. This will eliminate some possibilities. I will try to find solutions to your problem on my side.

Thank you and sorry I'm unable to help you for now.

      >> Problem: Razer Surround worked fine until the Driver for the Razer BlackWidow Chroma X was installed. Now everytime the computer had booted you had to restart the service "RzSurroundVADStreamingService" to have any sound at all through SurroundSound.

      Step 1: Open Task Scheduler

Step 2: Create a task with whatever name.

Open the desktop-app editor and create a file with the text:

      net stop "RzSurroundVADStreamingService"
      net start "RzSurroundVADStreamingService"

Save it as a *.bat-file and make sure it is set to "all files *.*" so it isnt a "*.bat.txt".

Step 5: Specify the action in task scheduler
Back in the task scheduler under actions you create a new action and select "start application" and as "program/task" you put the path to the *.bat-file we just created.

Step 6: Confirm all your selections and you are set!

Now whenever the RazerSynapse-Application is opened either in autostart or manually the service will be restarted and you have sound again.

Hope this helps, all thanks to anncrow.

  51. Permanent self-acting solution

    >> Problem: Razer Surround worked fine until the Driver for the Razer BlackWidow Chroma X was installed. Now everytime the computer had booted you had to restart the service "RzSurroundVADStreamingService" to have any sound at all through SurroundSound.

    >>Solution: Create a windows-task so whenever RazerSynapse is opened the service is restarted.

    >>Guide:
    Step 1: Open Task Scheduler

Step 2: Create a task with whatever name.

Step 3: Under trigger you add a trigger and select an event as a trigger. As an event you set "application" and as a source "C:\Program Files (x86)\Razer\Synapse\RzSynapse.exe" or wherever it is located in your files.

    Step 4: Create a task-action in editor
Open the desktop-app editor and create a file with the text:

    net stop "RzSurroundVADStreamingService"
    net start "RzSurroundVADStreamingService"

Save it as a *.bat-file and make sure it is set to "all files *.*" so it isnt a "*.bat.txt".

Step 5: Specify the action in task scheduler
Back in the task scheduler under actions you create a new action and select "start application" and as "program/task" you put the path to the *.bat-file we just created.

Step 6: Confirm all your selections and you are set!

Now whenever the RazerSynapse-Application is opened either in autostart or manually the service will be restarted and you have sound again.

    I hope this helps!

    3. *Edit to step 3: You might want to put in a slight delay on the trigger, 30 seconds seem to have been the most reliable compared to no trigger delay at all.

    4. I just tried your instructions and all seems okay but I think just have a problem with administrator attributes in .bat file.
I have tried loading .bat file without task scheduler but it says in cmd " access denied". From what I have read, you needs to launch any .bat file as administrator in order to make working the scripts however I can't select loading this bat file as administrator. I have Windows 10 with my own administrator account.
Do you know if there is some instruction which allow to load the file as administrator automatically?

    5. Fixed it already. But while testing, I have been noticing just can't make working step 3 (Trigger, launched by an event - application - ../rzsynapse.exe). I don't know if anybody can give me a hand. I did all the same instructions from this nice guy in step 3 but can't make this trigger working. There is a dropdown list which shows all applications and can't find some of those called as "Synapse", I just found "razergamescanner" and tried it as a trigger but it doesn't work. I tried as "C:\ ...\RzSynapse.exe" but it doesn't work as well. Would appreciate any help guys. Thanks !

    9. Hello, sorry for the late reply. There might be a few reasons of why it doesn't work for you. One of the reason is you did not save it as a .bat document but instead saved it as a .bat.txt document. This can be seen by checking on the file icon and see if its something that resembles a text document or something that represents console. Would you mind checking that out and reply back to me? Thanks.

    10. Hey pal, thanks for answering. No isn't that problem, it's a .bat file and works properly. I did external tests with the file in cmd. My problem is exactly in the step for "Trigger". I selected as trigger an event, ok so then I write all exactly path for my Rzsynapse.exe and that's the problem. I select the dropdown list and it doesn't show up any application called as "razer synapse" or "synapse", so then I write on all path for rzsynapse.exe (C:\..\rzsynapse.exe) but it doesn't work. I don't know what is the problem on that. Would appreciate if you can test it or any idea what is the problem...

I made another test, instead of " an event" I selected " Whenever I start my season" so then .bat applies and it works properly, the problem is for "an event -> C:\..\rzsynapse.exe".

    11. Thanks for the feedback.
I found 1 Problem and one setting i forgot to mention.

      IMPORTANT Edits:
      1. Change the trigger to the service itself

In Trigger, set the service itself as a trigger, no delay needed. For me it is located: 'C:\ProgramData\Razer\Synapse\Devices\Razer Surround\Driver\RzSurroundVADStreamingService.exe'
The Synapse-programme worked most of the time, not always.

      2. Execute the task with highest privileges
You need to execute the windows task with highest privileges otherwise the *.bat-file will not be executed. You can change that setting in the first tab whilst creating the windows-task.

      Hope this helps!

  54. it didn't work for me this trigger.. i understand all logic behind but don't understand why trigger doesn't react... Also yesterday 20th october was launched a new update which was installed and then my graphic card increased around 15° C just for using razer synapse at idle. No idea about this new change.

  55. Wow this has been a problem for how many years? Razer hasn't fixed it yet, and I paid for it :(
Anyways, I just wanted to come on here and say thanks for this info. It helped me.
My Razer Surround Pro started acting up a few weeks back and I was getting no sound, unless I uninstalled then reinstalled each and every time I shut off or restarted my computer.

So I still have this problem ever time I turn my computer on or restart, but at least now, all I have to do is stop/restart RzSurroundVADStreamingService.
    So Thanks again!

Now if only Razer would look into this and fix it!

  58. Using same script, but better trigger:

In task scheduler - edit trigger:
Begin the task: On an event
    Log: System
    Source: Power-Troubleshooter
    Event ID: 1

Now whenever the computer wakes from sleep it will automatically restart the service without having to open control panel.

  59. Finally figured it out!
I needed to have Realtek enabled as default communication device while Razer Surround was enabled as default device. Then restarting the service worked.
Before I just had Razer enabled and Realtek disabled :P
